The Neath Port-Talbot scheme is an innovative scheme that took its first intake of trainees in August 2004. We recruit to the scheme once a year as part of the national GP VTS recruitment. The scheme is part of the Wales deanery.

The full scheme last three years, although doctors with prior recognised training can apply for a shorter rotation (from 1 year to 2.5 years).

The full scheme is structured as follows:

• Year 1 - 2 x 6 month hospital jobs
• Year 2 - 6 months as a GP registrar and 6 months in a hospital job
• Year 3 - 12 months full time GP Registrar
